A civil wedding does not call for less of a wedding dress. It calls for a different one: simpler, lighter, closer to who you already are. Every piece is sewn by hand in 100% Greek silk. Dresses and separates that hold their own at city hall and at the dinner afterwards, with no need to change in between.

What the bride wears at a civil wedding

There is no rule, there is proportion. City hall, the courtyard of a house or a rooftop with a view cannot carry the volume of a church wedding dress, and they do not need to.

A white dress for a civil wedding works when it has a clean line, good fabric and the right fit. Those three do all the work.

Short, midi or long

Short wedding dresses are the most honest choice for a small daytime ceremony. Midi is the safest length: formal enough for the ceremony, casual enough that not everyone stares at you in the street. Long makes sense when a proper reception follows.

Every line can be cut to a different length without losing its character.

White, ivory or something else

Pure white is strong but demanding. Ivory and off-white are softer and more forgiving, and they are what we usually work with.

If you do not want white at all, a silk two-piece in a natural shade works just as well and can be worn again without a second thought.

Summer or winter

For a summer civil wedding, natural silk is the fabric that breathes: it does not cling, it does not overheat and it moves with the breeze.

For winter, the same line works with a long sleeve or with a silk vest or kimono on top. The dress stays the same, only the layers change.

Does it have to be white?

No. There is no rule about color at a civil wedding. Off-white and ivory sit more softly on most skin tones than pure white, which can look cold in daylight.

Short or long for city hall?

Both work. A midi or long simple dress gives more of a sense of ceremony, while short is more practical if a meal or travel follows. The venue and the time of day matter more than the length.

Can I wear a simple white dress?
