Every year lists of “the season's trends” come out, and every year half of them are forgotten before June. Not all of them are useless, though. Some point to something that is really changing in how people get married.
What we have been hearing at the atelier in recent years has a steady direction.
Why are brides asking for less of a wedding dress?
The phrase that keeps coming up is “I don't want to look like I'm in costume”. Brides ask for pieces they recognize themselves in, not costumes for one day.
In practice that means less volume, less lace, no rhinestones and lines that move with the body. It is the reason simple wedding dresses are no longer seen as the budget option and have become a conscious choice.
Why is the simple line winning?
A minimalist wedding dress relies on line and fabric instead of decoration: clean cuts, no lace or rhinestones, no volume. It does not mean simplistic. Why does the conversation now start with the fabric?
The conversation used to start with the silhouette. Now it more and more often starts with the fabric.

Why are two-piece separates winning?
The biggest change of recent years. Instead of a single dress, more and more brides choose a top with a skirt or trousers with a vest.
The reason is rarely aesthetic. It is that bridal separates can be worn again separately after the wedding, while a dress with a train goes into its bag and stays there.
What do smaller weddings change?
Small weddings are no longer the exception. City hall with thirty guests, a courtyard ceremony, an island wedding in the August heat. What the bride wears at a civil wedding is now a question we hear all the time.
That changes the outfit more than any trend. In a small space, too much dress looks out of proportion. On a beach, a train is a burden, not an ornament. That is why we see more civil wedding dresses and simple long designs.
Why is ivory gaining ground?
Off-white and ivory have gained ground, and not only for aesthetic reasons. Pure white in daylight, next to the skin, can look cold. Warmer shades sit more softly on most skin tones.
What never changes?
The fit. A dress that does not fit you cannot be saved by any design, and a dress cut to your measurements does not date because the season changed.
